ARTS EDUCATION


Contemporary Dance Class  The organic approach of traditional dance. The sharpness and clarity of shape of contemporary modern dance. The celebration of spirit in social dance. Warm up to strengthen and develop technique. Movement emphasizes musicality, rhythm and incorporates floor work. Calls for generous physicality, understanding of the conceptual mechanics of motion, a strong use of gesture, articulation of the body, and fluidity of the joints and breath.


Interdisciplinary approach curriculum  Arts in education programs have incorporated unique elements based on The Company’s work and development: Aesthetics & Philosophy, Writing Dance, Contemporary Dance History and Economics of Culture


Artist Dialogues Informal talks with the Artistic Director and/or members of The Company. Focus is on the history of The Company and the influences that inform the work.


Performance opportunities  Students are invited to perform as guest artists with The Company or to perform in a work choreographed by Makeda Thomas.
